When Charm 45+ asked readers for details on their most recent splurges, the response was varied. But mature women seem to favor moments over mementos. Today, we share two more stories of what local women have splurged on - and why it was worth it!I had just inherited a small legacy and immediately knew how I wanted to spend it. I treated my then 15-year-old, Florida-born grandson to a grand tour of my birthplace, Jamaica. He'd never been, but had long wanted to visit.

So we flew to Kingston, where, with the help of my resident sister, he saw my childhood home, my old high school and various other family landmarks. To top it off, we attended my family reunion at a cousin's house on the island's famed North Coast, near Ocho Rios.

We returned to Florida with happy memories of a very special time.

Mature Women

In the '70s, I began making some investments and did pretty well for a gal who had struggled with high school math. During the '80s, I began tithing, as instructed in the Bible. Amazingly, my savings and investments grew beyond expectations.

You can imagine the family's shock in 2006 when I announced my plan to take them for a two-week vacation in Switzerland. Snapping up my invitation were my three grown children, one's spouse and six grandchildren. My brother agreed to come and keep me company when all the youthful energy and activities were too much. (The ages ranged from 12 to 79.)

With my children paying for their own family's meals, I took care of lodging and transportation for all my favorite people. The tab was under $40,000 for the biggest and best splurge of my lifetime!
